Full-day tour to the cradle of Supertuscan wines: the little hamlet of Bolgheri and its stunning wineries

The day starts with an introduction to the world of Tuscan wines right before your departure from Borgo alle Vigne. You will drive following my car for just over one hour across romantic hills and low mountains towards the most famous wine town of the Tuscan coast: Bolgheri. The drive is a great occasion to learn about the harmony of the Tuscan territory and its iconic shapes forged by a century old farming tradition. Once in Bolgheri you will have a stop right a long its famous 5-km-long boulevard of ancient cypress trees. I will tell you about the importance of this place in the Italian culture. In Bolgheri we will visit a historical winery owned by one of the powerful families who used to control the whole district and who literally invented the concept of "innovative" wines in Bolgheri, leading to the success of Supertuscan wines. The visit includes a historical insignt on the property, a visit to ancient underground cellars and a private wine sampling of 3 excellent wines in the premises of an ancient castle. The wines will be served with some snacks. The day continues with a little walk in Bolgheri where you have the chance to sit in one of the many local little restaurants for lunch or just enjoy a delicious gelato. In the afternoon, we will visit a small winery belonging to the "new wave". It's a common trend of the last 4 decades in Bolgheri: many historical producers of fruit & vegetables converted their production to delicious wines, creating an incredible combination of top quality and affordable rates. At this winery you will have the chance to visit some vineyards and learn about any farming method they apply. The wine tasting will include 5 wines served with little snacks. By the end of the day you will have a complete picture of the concept of Bolgheri wines. The drive back will be on your own. - Drive to Bolgheri (1 hour) - Visit to the cypress boulevard of Bolgheri (30 minutes) - Visit to a historical castle and its winery (1.5 hours) - Walk in Bolgheri and occasion for lunch or gelato (1 hour) - Visit to a "new" winery (1.5 hours) - Drive back to Borgo alle Vigne (1 hour)
